heyy i'm marie (some people call me joy).. i currently live in chicago... but i'll always be a californian..

2011 was a memorable year for me… i turned 30 years old.. god chose me to be the mother of two totally awesome kids (zahra and zavier- they're irish twins).. and i discovered my love for food and cooking…

shortly after zahra was born, we began traveling (work related) to different cities.. at that time, one of our favorite shows on the food network was called diners, drive-ins, and dives (triple d)… the show features a road trip concept with host guy fieri traveling around north america looking for the best diners, drive-ins, and dives.. we figured since we were traveling to all these cities anyway and we needed to find places to eat, that we would just go to triple d spots so we can try some of that good food that they feature on the show!

the very first triple d spot that we ate at was called the porthole restaurant (www.portholemaine.com) located in portland, maine.. we loved it so much that it was immediately followed (literally the same day) by our second triple d spot called bob's clam hut (www.bobsclamhut.com) located in kittery, maine.. it was my first time ever trying a "lobster roll".. wow so good! eating lobster in maine straight from the dock is my absolute my favorite! the food at both places were definitely impressive! we were instantly hooked! it became our goal to try as many triple d spots as possible! it was so fun checking out all the local hidden gems in all these different cities that we would've never found if it wasn't for the show… with each new restaurant we would try, the more i became excited about going to the next place! i was becoming a "foodie"… and i loved it :)

it was in the beginning of 2012, when i really began experimenting with healthy cooking habits and taking photographs of the cooking process.. everyday i would wake up and just be super excited to make something new! i discovered the "joy of cooking".. and i was so happy!

i cook a variety of different kinds of food, but mostly i love making asian fusion… if i could only choose one type of food to have everyday, i'd most definitely choose filipino food! its my fave, i grew up eating it, and theres so many delicious dishes to make… i would own a filipino-mexican food truck (we don't have one in chicago yet), if i learned how to cook in a food truck kitchen and if i learned how to run a business like that successfully.. for now our small kitchen in our chicago apartment will have to do.. i'm cool with that :)

usually i find recipes online and kinda follow it then add things that i like to make it my own.. and sometimes i just make up recipes based on ingredients that we have in the fridge.. my fave is recreating food that we love from the triple d places.. mostly i try to cook healthy but sometimes i just go all out and cook without being health conscious… i don't have any culinary education (although i would like to attend school at some point) or professional experience working in the kitchen but i have a passion for food and cooking makes me happy!
